AMY H SAYS:

When I met Maja - I needed a change. I felt I had been painting the same things over and over again. I wasn't feeling committed to my work and I felt scattered. I felt I needed to find someone who could look at what I was doing with different eyes and help me to discover new inspiration for what I make. Also, I wanted someone who could help me organize or streamline my work.

Maja has helped me to remain charged up and inspired to try new things. She asks questions about my work, making me think in new ways about how to move forward with my ideas. She is helping broaden my horizons about where, when and how I paint. She provides me with resources and newfound examples of materials for providing textures, color, lines and shapes in my work. She stays in close contact with me and offers her insights about my paintings and projects. My connection with her is incredibly helpful in keeping the energy going to continue the work and to keep pushing towards broader horizons.

As I continue to meet with Maja she shows up with fresh ideas and unique suggestions for how I can expand on what I am currently doing (using different and new types of paper, natural objects to add texture). She's constantly here to remind me of innovative ways to create new experiences for me and my work and push towards new creative connections (to attend art showings, fairs and join groups of artists, see new artwork online). She has encouraged me to take myself and my work more seriously and to maintain my commitment with consistent daily art activities (small, moderate and mundane). She brought up an idea for me to start applying to art residencies and it's become very exciting, I feel elevated as an artist. Her insights have helped me immensely to improve my perspective of what it means for me to be an artist. It's because of her that I often now think about why I am an artist and what it is I am saying with my ideas. As the days go on I am feeling more and more grounded in my creative work.

It was her encouragement that helped me to improve my mindset about my current work.  This brought me to improve my studio and my personal documentation of my ideas-- leading to a finer tuned direction. Just this past month my work was accepted to a juried show in Brooklyn, my first show in NY.  I am so excited to have the work up and have people see my paintings in a gallery amongst others, it feels validating and very uplifting.
